Florida Revival at Tiger Town in Lakeland

May 2, 2008

Tiger Town Stadium in Lakeland, FloridaTiger Town in Lakeland, Florida is destined for some craziness tonight!

The Florida Revival will move to Tiger Town stadium (also known as Joker Merchant Stadium) to hold the masses that are expected.

Every night of the revival so far, people are being healed. Last night I watched a lady in the back row, no one had even laid a hand on her and no one was really watching her, get up out of her wheel chair and walk.

Revival Notes:

People’s faith is growing. The miracles are getting more extreme. The revival is picking up steam! Last night Todd Bentley could hardly even preach.

And everyone is talking about it. In the Smoothie King where I get breakfast, the whole staff got in on the conversation. Though we all have questions and seek for what is genuine and what is true about these events, the important part is that we are seeking more of God.

Note about Joker Merchant Stadium:

Nuttyaboutsports.com says, “Joker Marchant Stadium was built on the site of a former World War II flight school. The stadium, which has been home to the Tigers since its opening in 1966, was named in honor of the late Joker Marchant, Lakeland’s former parks and recreation director.”

The history around the stadium is interesting indeed!

Florida Revival Critics and Deception

May 2, 2008

For the Florida Revival, critics and deception will be the number one topic on the blogosphere, in the media, and on social circles around the world.

In fact, it is the only real predictable thing when revival really DOES happen.

There are a few distinctions that could be made, though, to help even the keep of being critical and being discerning; of being close-minded or being open-minded; being naive or being receptive to the things of God.

Critics will often come down hard. The first question that needs to be ask is whether or not they are a Christian. If will save you a lot of headache to not engage in a debate with someone who is not a believer. The basic gospel is what needs to be focused on.

But, lets say that you are a Christian, and are critical of the Florida Revival with Todd Bentley, or any revival for that matter.

Being discerning is good. We must be discerning. We must know what aspects of a person’s character is expressing itself through God or through their own flesh.

The difficult thing about simply being critical is that it also shuts down one’s faith faculties. Often, to simply be critical and claim that there is extreme deception going on is obviously shutting off the areas of their mind that would be open to acts of faith.

So we need to be careful there.

In Todd Bentley’s case, he will get blazed by believers and unbelievers alike! If fact, I must confess that when I visited the event 2 and a half weeks ago I was extremely critical.

But, having served a revivalist for almost 7 years, I have learned that being critical (justified or not) will slowly degrade my sensitivity to God acting in new ways over my life. (This is assuming one is a believer, of course.)

For me, I had to go and see for myself. I had to see the healings. I had to sense the environment and decide for myself if this was a genuine move of God.

Another great tip for the critics is to understand that revival is not about the people on stage! This thing could not be less about Todd Bentley if he handed the microphone to a gerbil and walked away.

A divinely ordained move of God is sourced from the intense atmosphere of faith of the people. Not only did Jesus say, “according to your faith, be it unto you,” Todd Bentley himself will admit that this is a God thing.

There are so many individual mindsets that could be addressed, but the big ones are:

  • that in being discerning, we should not shut off our faith faculties and possibly block God from speaking to our hearts, and
  • to be sure not to make it about the man they see on the stage, but make it between themself and God.
